Cranbrook Avenue - ![]() Living on Cranbrook Avenue is great, especially if you find getting up for dreaded 9.15’s hard! It's literally five minutes from the University, so there are no excuses for missing lectures! You also have the added bonus of not having to walk far to or from the union, this is particularly handy after Twisted on a Saturday night! Depending on which end of Cranbrook Avenue you live, means you may also be close to Cottingham Road, which means you can take advantage of pubs, shops and takeaways, for those nights you just can’t be bothered to cook! It is also close to Newland Avenue so is within easy reach of a variety of relatively cheap shops selling anything from food to footwear, clothes to cookies, bedding to beer! However it can be quite noisy as nearly everybody walks to the University via Cranbrook Avenue There is also a lot of traffic on this road. If you're the type of person who needs peace and quiet, especially at night, then the front room of a house on Cranbrook Avenue is not for you! Socially it's great, as people will always call in before or after lectures. This is fine until the time when deadlines are looming! There are bus stops along Cranbrook Avenue and regular buses both to town, Tesco and Asda, so you'll never carry your shopping far. Being close means that you can take greater advantage of the sports centre, library and Union bars! Its easy to pop home for things and generally convenient, so is definitely a place to be considered. |

Cottingham Road - ![]() Living on Cottingham Road means everything you’ve ever wanted is close by, Newland Avenue, Beverley Road and of course Cottingham Road are brilliant places for shops, takeaways and pubs. The University and the Union are also 5 or 10 minutes walk (2 if you run). Also buses are twice as frequent than if you live on any other road around the university as all the buses go down Cottingham Road—this is very convenient for town goers. Be careful though as this is a busy road and traffic noise could be a problem if you don’t have double glazing. One of the best roads—if you don’t mind the traffic that is! |

Newland Avenue - Whatever you need as a student can be found on Newland Avenue. It is only 10 to 15 minutes walk from the University and if you need to get into town there is usually a bus on its way. Every kind of shop and service can be found, including a Post Office, the widespread Jackson's and there's even a Boots, the Piper is a must for a lively atmosphere. There is Planet Coffee For those craving the friends atmosphere and the pretence of being in New York. If you fancy a takeaway then most tastes are catered for, although the most popular seems to be Indus Tandoori. Despite the occasional strange smells and the mad rush on a Saturday you feel at home on a road that has everything. |

Beverley Road - Beverley Road is about 20 minutes walk from the University, giving oneself time to wake up and become clear headed before embarking on a university day. Away from the University, the long stretch of Beverley Road provides a student with everything he or she could possibly need. The Beverley Road run provides the biggest pub crawl in Hull starting at The Haworth and The Turnpike, past The Firkin and Scruffys across the road to The Hogshead and Weatherspoon and onwards towards town. Beverley Road is in a good location in that it is closer to town, buses are regular and taxis to clubs are made significantly cheaper, it is also only five minutes walk to Newland Avenue. Beverley road is host to many different ways of eating with restaurants serving food from all over the globe. For a cheaper lunch time alternative, many of the pubs serve good food. Beverley Road is also lined with takeaways to suit every palette. For the more fitness oriented amongst you, Beverley Road Baths offers a relatively inexpensive alternative to The Sports Centre. So the convenience of Beverley Road makes it a very good option for a place to live. |

Cottingham - I’ve lived in Cottingham for the last two years and I think it is ace! It may be a little too far from the University for most people liking but if you want a quieter, prettier alternative to living around the university or in the city, Cottingham is the place to be. For food and general groceries, it has plenty of cheap shops like Safeway's and Jackson's.While for entertainment you can crawl around the numerous pubs, (avoid the Tiger) The Railway has a good quiz on Mondays and Thursdays for those desperate to win money. Or if you want to stay in you can order takeaway (Kismets pizzas are excellent and they deliver). Or you can get a video (Pharaohs do a good student discount) Cottingham has a railway so if you want a change of scenery you can always pop into Beverley or Bridling ton. Access to and from the University and Hull is easy, buses are regular and reliable while private hire taxis are pretty cheap if you are going clubbing in town. Alternatively you could always walk!! Apart from the distance problem Cottingham is a lot better than people give it credit for. |

Princes Avenue - ![]() Princes Avenue is a bit out of the main student area. However this is not a reason to immediately dismiss it. Princes avenue follows on from the end of Newland avenue. As a result all the shops on Newland Avenue are only a few minutes away, as are a large percentage of the student population. Princes Avenue has its own attractions too though. There are some decent restaurants (including An Italian and a Texmex). There is the 24 hour Jackson's for those of us who like to do our shopping in the early hours. There are some pubs which are relatively student friendly such as The Queens and The Linnet and Lark. Princes Avenue is also only a short walk from the town centre, which means less money spent on buses and taxis, (and more for shopping and beer). However students should be sensible, particularly at night, as the area is not as busy as Newland Avenue. Another thing to consider, if you fancy living in a large group, is that houses in this area tend to be quite big. |
